Background
Past versions of CryEngine made use of skyboxes which can be considered as pictures on the inside of a box. The insides of the box would be painted with a sky texture, and the bottom of the box is the game area. However, distortion effects and image quality issues led to the introduction of a new sky system. In addition, while past CryEngines simulated clouds as a texture, they are now real 3D objects that cameras can travel through.
