Skies in Crysis play an important part in creating the photorealistic environment. In this tutorial, we will setup a time of day enabled dynamic sky. If you would rather create a static sky, please read Set up a Static Sky.
Background
Past versions of CryEngine made use of skyboxes which can be considered as pictures on the inside of a box. The insides of the box would be painted with a sky texture, and the bottom of the box is the game area. However, distortion effects and image quality issues led to the introduction of a new sky system. In addition, while past CryEngines simulated clouds as a texture, they are now real 3D objects that cameras can travel through.
Prerequisites
| Note
| In most cases the dynamic sky is already set up. If your sky is Material/Sky/Sky, your sky is already a dynamic sky.
| Note
| Having a sky with a material other than Material/Sky/Sky may lead to situations such as having a sun while it's nighttime.
