Snapping

Accuately placing objects is essential in avoiding the tiny gaps between objects you meant to place side by side. You can use snapping or simulate the physics for a natural position. Enable Snap to Terrain/Align before transforming objects. (Enable it on the top menu bar)

Simulation

  1. Place the object on top of something
  2. Select the object
  3. Select Modify → Physics → Simulate Objects

Grids

The grid can be enabled by going Display (on the Toolbar menu)> Grid Settings.

From there, you can adjust various settings, however the main one you'll be using is 'Grid Lines Every:'. If it is set to 64 for example, your objects will snap only to a grid with separation between lines of 64 meters.

The default hotkey for toggling the grid on/off is G.

The grid ensures your objects are in an exact alignment.
